World Cup Day of Dance

That the Parliament congratulates the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society and the Scottish Association of Teachers of Physical Education on organising the World Cup Day of Dance on 12 June 2026; recognises the initiative as a creative and inclusive celebration of Scottish culture, sport and community spirit ahead of Scotland’s participation in the FIFA World Cup; further recognises that schools across Scotland are being encouraged to take part in Scottish country dance activities, including the specially created “World Cup Wheech”, which has been developed in partnership with pupils from Penpont Primary School in Dumfries and Galloway; commends the efforts of teachers, volunteers, dancers and musicians across the country in supporting school participation; recognises the importance of Scottish country dance to Scotland’s cultural heritage; welcomes the opportunity to inspire a new generation to engage with Scotland’s traditional arts, and wishes everyone taking part in the World Cup Day of Dance every success in celebrating both Scottish culture and Scotland’s national football team.
