That the Parliament congratulates the organisers of Orkney's Norwegian Constitution Day celebrations on their well-attended Tog parade and festivities, which were held on 17 May 2026; understands that Norwegian Constitution Day, or Syttende Mai, marks the signing of Norway's constitution in 1814, which established the country's independence, and has been celebrated in Kirkwall for over a century to honour Orkney's special friendship with Norway; notes that the celebrations included the annual Tog parade from Kirkwall Pierhead to St Magnus Cathedral, speeches, live music and performances; acknowledges that Orkney and Norway share deep cultural ties and a longstanding relationship dating back to the 700s when the islands were populated by Norwegians, and extends a heartfelt 'Gratulerer Med Dagen' to all those who celebrated Norwegian Constitution Day, both in Orkney and in Norway.
