  • Submitted by: Liam McArthur, Orkney Islands, Scottish Liberal Democrats

  • Motion type: Standard Motion
  • Motion reference: S7M-00069

That the Parliament congratulates Repair Café Orkney on celebrating its one-year anniversary; understands that the Repair Café is a project supported by Greener Orkney, which hosts monthly pop-up social events in Stromness and St Margaret's Hope where community members can bring things such as clothes and household items to be repaired and learn how to make repairs themselves; notes that Repair Café Orkney is the brainchild of Anne Sayer and Dan Wright but forms part of a wider global initiative of repair cafés aimed at reducing waste and encouraging sustainable practices at a community level; acknowledges that as of January 2026, the café has helped divert 392kg of stuff from waste streams by repairing items and keeping them in use, which translates to four tonnes of C02 emissions prevented; congratulates Repair Café Orkney on a very successful first year; wishes all those involved continued success, and looks forward to repair cafés popping up in other parts of the country in the future.
