  • Motion reference: S6M-21064

That the Parliament congratulates Dollar Academy’s pipe band and Stirling and District Schools Pipe Band on receiving a number of top awards at the Scottish Schools Pipe Band Championships in Kilmarnock, including second place in the Juvenile category; understands that the school also secured fourth place in the Novice Juvenile 'A' section, winning £600 in total from the awards; further understands that the championships, held at the William McIlvanney Campus, drew young musicians from 172 schools across Scotland, which is the highest number in the event's 12-year history; believes that the entry of 51 bands and 10 quartets competing, with 90% of participating schools from the state sector, demonstrates that piping and drumming in Scotland’s schools is not only thriving but becoming more inclusive and more accessible than ever before; notes that the event was backed by sponsors such as the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, William Grant Foundation and William Syson Foundation; acknowledges that Stirling and District Schools Pipe Band received the Eilidh MacLeod Endeavour Award for its dedication to supporting the suicide prevention charity Back Onside, and that it raised funds by busking throughout the winter months, and commends everyone involved on their sterling endeavours in this regard.
