That the Parliament congratulates Libby Walker, a Glasgow-based landscape painter, on reaching the semi-final of the Sky Arts television programme, Landscape Artist of the Year; understands that painting on television and creating work under significant time pressure and public scrutiny was outside her usual comfort zone; recognises the achievement of progressing to the later stages of one of the UK’s leading and most competitive televised art competitions; notes Ms Walker’s description of the experience as surreal and her expressed hope that her participation will inspire others to engage with art and creativity; acknowledges that she lives and works in Glasgow and that her artistic practice is shaped by Scotland’s landscapes and environment; believes that her success brings positive national attention to Glasgow’s vibrant creative community and the city’s long-standing reputation for nurturing artistic talent, and recognises the wider contribution made by artists across Glasgow and Scotland to cultural life, creative expression, and community wellbeing.
