  • Submitted by: Alexander Stewart, Mid Scotland and Fife, Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party
  • Date lodged: Monday, 23 February 2026
  • Motion type: Standard Motion
  • Motion reference: S6M-20888

That the Parliament welcomes the news that The Wee Bookshop in Dollar has been shortlisted for a regional independent bookstore award; understands that since opening in 2023, the shop has stood as Dollar’s only space to browse literature, take part in Q&A events with authors, and drink high-quality coffee; believes that, recognised against several other Scottish bookstores, The Wee Bookshop has been nominated for a regional award as Scotland’s Independent Bookstore of the Year at the British Book Awards; acknowledges that the owner’s goal has been to provide an inclusive space for locals and those further afield, whilst maintaining a calm atmosphere and opportunity for taking part in community and school events; notes that the shortlist includes seven other book shops from Scotland and even more from the wider UK, with the winner being announced on 11 May 2026; commends The Wee Bookshop on this nomination after only its second full year of opening, and further commends the communities both locally and farther afield on their overwhelming support for the business.
