Solidarity with University of Stirling UCU Members

  • Submitted by: Mark Ruskell, Mid Scotland and Fife, Scottish Green Party
  • Date lodged: Monday, 23 February 2026
  • Motion type: Standard Motion
  • Motion reference: S6M-20883

That the Parliament notes the reports that University and College Union (UCU) members at the University of Stirling have voted in favour of taking further industrial action in the ongoing dispute around job cuts and the failure of senior management to rule out compulsory redundancies; understands that balloted actions may include action short of strike and full strike action; further understands that there have already been 175 voluntary redundances across the university’s professional and academic staff, resulting in increased workload pressures for remaining staff; recognises the union's calls for the senior management of the university to prioritise protecting existing jobs and revisiting its financial strategy, and expresses its full solidarity with the University of Stirling UCU and campus unions, which, it considers, continue to defend jobs and seek improvements to working conditions at the university.
