Faslane Anti-nuclear National Demonstration

  • Submitted by: Bill Kidd, Glasgow Anniesland, Scottish National Party
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 10 February 2026
  • Motion type: Standard Motion
  • Motion reference: S6M-20744

That the Parliament notes the national demonstration, "Stop The Nuclear Nightmare", taking place on 14 March 2026 at the Faslane nuclear submarine base, which will bring together a broad coalition of disarmament partners to highlight what it sees as the danger of nuclear weapons to Scotland, ahead of the Scottish Parliament elections in May; echoes the sentiments of the demonstration that, far from keeping people safe, they make the base a target, which is only an hour from Scotland's most populous city; notes with concern reports of poor conditions at the nuclear weapons facilities on Scotland’s west coast having caused radioactive risks, as well as what it sees as shocking incidents of pollution while nuclear convoys carry what it believes are these dangerous and toxic weapons up and down Scotland's roads, often through towns and cities; considers that the threat of nuclear omnicide due to increased international tensions poses the greatest risk to humanity as a whole, and calls on all those concerned to raise their voices and support these calls.
