That the Parliament congratulates the entire team at The Orcadian on being named Newspaper of the Year at the Highlands and Islands Media Awards 2026, which took place on 6 February in Inverness; understands that The Orcadian has been delivering excellent local journalism in Orkney since 1854; recognises the important role that local media plays in promoting transparency, accountability and engagement between all levels of government and the public, and in keeping local communities informed on developments in the arts, culture, industry, sport and more; believes this award to be a well-deserved recognition of the hard work that the dedicated team at The Orcadian puts in to ensuring that islanders have access to the news that matters to them, and congratulates the editor, Mark Harcus, the managing director, Leah Seator, and the entire team on this latest achievement.
