That the Parliament notes the recent ITV News report highlighting the work of Rodger Hill and Sharon Duncan, following the sudden death of their son, and Scottish Parliament colleague, David Hill; notes that David was fit and healthy, had a love of rugby, and suffered a sudden cardiac arrest and collapse at the age of 30; recognises the devastating impact that sudden cardiac death can have on families and communities, particularly when it affects young and active individuals with no prior diagnosis; commends Rodger and Sharon for transforming personal tragedy into life-saving action by raising funds to support the installation of community defibrillators and the delivery of heart health screening for young people; notes that, through this work, 761 young people have already received cardiac screening, with 65 subsequently referred for further clinical assessment; further notes that fundraising efforts for Cardiac Risk in the Young and the DH9 Foundation have now surpassed £100,000, securing the continuation of this screening and defibrillator provision through to the end of 2027; acknowledges the critical importance of early detection, access to publicly available defibrillators and increased awareness in improving survival rates from cardiac arrest, and calls on the Scottish Government, NHS Scotland and relevant partners to continue exploring ways to support preventative cardiac screening for young people, expand access to defibrillators in community and sporting settings, and strengthen public education around sudden cardiac arrest across Scotland.
