Commending South West Scotland RnR and Robin Hood for Outstanding Service to Veterans

That the Parliament congratulates Robin Hood and South West Scotland (SWS) RnR on their outstanding contribution to supporting veterans; recognises that SWS RnR is a charity based in Dumfries and Galloway that offers two training programmes to help former servicemen pass the theory test to enable them to begin driver training for heavy goods vehicles; notes that SWS RnR also provides training to achieve the Security Industry Authority (SIA) qualification required for employment in the security sector; acknowledges that, over the last nine years, this initiative has enabled 90 veterans into work, including 87 who are now HGV drivers, one that is an ambulance driver, one that is a forklift driver, and one who is a joiner, with 82 of these veterans coming from Dumfries and Galloway; recognises that Robin has been the main fundraiser for SWS RnR, whose dedication and commitment have ensured its success; acknowledges that Robin was awarded Scottish Fundraiser of the Year in 2008 by Nicola Sturgeon, in recognition of his exceptional efforts; notes that the charity’s eight-foot carving of a Gordon Highlander First World War soldier, nicknamed “Jock”, has already become a TV star, accompanying Robin on many fundraising activities, and commends Robin and SWS RnR for the remarkable difference that they have made to the lives of veterans, their families and the wider community.
