That the Parliament congratulates the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland for Edinburgh Zoo winning the Climate Action Award at the Scottish Thistle Awards, regarded as the “Oscars” of the Scottish tourism industry; recognises that the award highlights Edinburgh Zoo’s ambitious pledge to reduce its carbon footprint by 60% by 2030 and be carbon neutral by 2040; welcomes what it sees as the wide-ranging action already being taken to meet this goal, including the installation of the UK’s largest zoo-based solar meadow, the integration of sustainable best practice in the design and construction of animal habitats, and the delivery of community programmes that aim to make nature more inclusive and accessible for all; commends the staff and volunteers at the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland for their continued dedication to conservation, education, and environmental stewardship, and wishes the charity every success as it continues its work to inspire and enable a world where nature is protected, valued and loved.
