That the Parliament notes with great sadness the recent passing of Dr Donald John Craig Cameron, who was the former District Medical Officer for Moray, at the age of 94; understands that, following his retirement from his distinguished medical career, he remained active and heavily involved in his local community of Fochabers, which the family had moved to in the 1970s, working tirelessly in support of Bellie Parish Church and as a member of Lennox Community Council on which he was a strong voice for local issues and local democracy; notes that Dr Cameron was also a long standing member of the Scottish Liberal Democrats, for whom he acted as a candidate and election agent; understands that he joined the Liberal Party in 1974 and was convener of the Moray Liberal Democrats for 23 years from 1995 until 2018, always offering support and encouragement to new and existing members; further understands that his commitment and dedication to the party saw Dr Cameron receive the Scottish Liberal Democrat long-standing service award in 2024; praises his dedication, and that of his family, to the Abbie’s Sparkle Foundation, which was created following the death of his granddaughter Abbie on Christmas Day 2017 at the age of 15, following experiencing four years of having a rare form of sarcoma, and sends its sympathies and condolences to Jennie, his wife of 65 years, and his family and many friends.
