That the Parliament notes with great sadness the recent passing of Professor Stuart Gulliver, the distinguished economist and urbanist, at the age of 84; recognises what it sees as his major contribution to the transformation of Glasgow and to urban regeneration across Scotland; notes that, following senior roles in the Scottish Development Agency, he was appointed chief executive of the Glasgow Development Agency in 1990, leading landmark projects including the regeneration of the Merchant City, the Crown Street redevelopment in the Gorbals and Glasgow’s UK City of Architecture and Design year in 1999; believes that his leadership and vision helped guide Glasgow from a period of industrial decline towards renewed economic and cultural confidence; notes his later work as Professor of City Development at the University of Glasgow, his collaboration with international partners, including the World Bank, Brookings and cities across the UK and Ireland, and his distinguished leadership of the Scottish Labour Housing Commission producing what it sees as  the ground breaking Improving People’s Lives through Radical Change and Reform report, and expresses sincere condolences to his family, friends and colleagues, recognising the lasting influence of his work on Glasgow’s growth, identity and global reputation.
