That the Parliament recognises the extraordinary fundraising efforts of Mavis Paterson, who is affectionately known as "Granny Mave", and is aged 87, from Auchenmalg in Wigtownshire in the South Scotland region; applauds her most recent challenge, cycling continuously aboard a Stena Line ferry between Cairnryan and Belfast and back again, to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support; notes that this effort follows decades of charitable work, during which she has raised over £100,000, including cycling over 10,000 miles for causes, such as Breast Cancer Care, British Heart Foundation and Macmillan, in memory of her three children and other loved ones; acknowledges her completion of a 1,000-mile solo cycle across Scotland in 2023, which alone raised £74,300, and her coast-to-coast ride from Stranraer to Eyemouth in 2025; commends her other achievements, including cycling 6,000 miles around Canada and becoming the oldest woman to cycle from Land’s End to John o’ Groats at the age of 81, earning her a place in the Guinness World Records; recognises her outstanding service, marked by the award of the British Empire Medal in The King’s New Year Honours List; celebrates her resilience, compassion and unwavering commitment to helping others, and believes that Granny Mave’s legacy is a shining example of the power of community spirit and personal courage.
