  • Motion reference: S6M-19285

That the Parliament congratulates Edinburgh brothers, Jamie, Ewan and Lachlan Maclean on setting a new world record for the fastest non-stop, unsupported row across the Pacific Ocean; notes that the trio completed the 9,000-mile (14,484km) journey from Peru to Australia in 139 days, five hours and 52 minutes, breaking the previous record of 162 days; recognises that their achievement was accomplished in the face of extreme conditions, including tropical storms, powerful winds and high seas, during which Lachlan was swept overboard and safely recovered; commends the brothers for their remarkable teamwork, endurance and resilience throughout the near 140-day voyage aboard their carbon fibre boat, Rose Emily, named in memory of their late sister; understands that the Macleans have so far raised over £700,000 towards a £1 million goal to fund clean water projects in Madagascar through their expedition; acknowledges the training undertaken off the coast of Assynt in the north west Highlands, and celebrates this extraordinary example of determination, adventure and philanthropy, which has brought pride to their family, their community, and the nation as a whole.
