Thanking Leverburgh RNLI Crews

  • Submitted by: Alasdair Allan, Na h-Eileanan an Iar, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 23 September 2025
  • Motion reference: S6M-19019

That the Parliament thanks the volunteers of Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) Leverburgh station on the Isle of Harris for their service to protecting and saving lives at sea since 2012; understands that, due to ongoing demographic changes, the RNLI is assessing how to continue to serve the region; notes that it is withdrawing its Atlantic 85 Lifeboat, but believes that it is confident in its ability to ensure that Harris and North Uist seafarers will continue to be served under the protection of the RNLI crews in Stornoway, Barra and Portree, and recognises that Scotland’s lifeboat service is entirely dependent on its brave volunteers and encourages people from maritime regions to consider volunteering.
