That the Parliament welcomes the UK Government’s announcement of a £750 million investment to establish the next generation of national supercomputing infrastructure at the University of Edinburgh; believes that this investment will strengthen the UK’s global leadership in advanced computing, artificial intelligence and data science; acknowledges what it sees as the University of Edinburgh’s longstanding excellence in research and innovation, including the flagship data driven innovation programme, as part of the Edinburgh and South East Scotland City Region Deal, alongside the university’s role in hosting the Edinburgh International Data Facility and ARCHER2; notes what it sees as the significance and potential of this investment for economic growth, skills development and scientific progress across Scotland and the UK, and commends all those who advocated for this landmark investment, including local representatives, academic leaders and industry partners.
