  • Submitted by: Liam McArthur, Orkney Islands, Scottish Liberal Democrats.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 24 June 2025
  • Motion reference: S6M-18073

That the Parliament welcomes the return to Orkney of the Clan Cancer Support Monumental Midnight Walk for the first time in 12 years on 21 June 2025; understands that walkers gathered at midnight at Stromness Pier to embark on a choice of three routes, walking distances of either 23, 14, or 4.9 miles and taking in sites of historical significance such as the Ring of Brodgar and Skara Brae; further understands that those taking part each raise funds through sponsorship to support the vital services that Clan Cancer Support provides to those affected by cancer within the Orkney community; believes that the event provides an excellent opportunity to bring the local community together to raise funds for an excellent cause while making the most of Orkney’s stunning natural and historic environment; thanks all the participants, volunteers, and organisers for their efforts in making the return of such a special event both possible and successful after so many years, and pays tribute to the tireless work of Clan Cancer Support in providing compassionate care and support to cancer patients and their families across the north east and Northern Isles.
