That the Parliament recognises Cancer Prevention Action Week 2025, which this year is focussed on the link between alcohol and cancer, is organised by the World Cancer Research Fund, and supported by Alcohol Focus Scotland and other organisations that are working to reduce alcohol harm and cancer incidence; acknowledges that, like tobacco, alcohol is a Group 1 carcinogen and a well-established modifiable risk factor for seven cancer types, including two of the most common, breast and bowel; notes reports that one in two people in Scotland do not know that alcohol an cause cancer; considers that more work is needed in Scotland to prevent the estimated 1,000 cancer cases a year caused by alcohol; observes that the number of cancer cases attributable to alcohol in the UK is reportedly rising, from around 3.3% (12,000) in 2015 to around 4% (17,000) in 2020; recognises what it regards as the importance of taking preventative action to tackle alcohol-attributable cancers, such as including mandatory health information on alcohol product labels and introducing marketing restrictions, and supports the development and implementation of a new alcohol strategy for Scotland, which takes a preventative approach to alcohol harm.
