Clean Air Day 2025

  • Submitted by: Mark Ruskell, Mid Scotland and Fife, Scottish Green Party.
  • Date lodged: Monday, 16 June 2025
  • Motion reference: S6M-17964

That the Parliament welcomes Clean Air Day 2025 on 19 June 2025; recognises what it considers to be the importance of Clean Air Day to raise awareness of air pollution and how emissions impact human health and the environment; notes that the World Health Organization updated its Air Quality Guidelines in 2021 to stricter limits for pollutants such as nitrogen dioxide and fine particulate matter; considers that air pollution is the greatest environmental threat to human health, causing lung, heart and brain conditions, as well as other health conditions; supports efforts to reduce emissions from sources such as transport, including vehicle idling, domestic heating and industry, and welcomes campaigns to improve air quality by charities and third sector groups such as Asthma + Lung UK Scotland, Sustrans Scotland, Friends of the Earth Scotland, and the Environmental Rights Centre for Scotland.
