That the Parliament congratulates the young Orkney athletes on their success in retaining the Stuart Cup for the third year in a row with victory over Shetland at the annual junior inter-county competition, which ran from 7-8 June 2025; notes that this is the first time Orkney has had three successive Stuart Cup wins since the four-year run between 1991 and 1994; understands that there were many outstanding individual and team performances by both Orkney and Shetland athletes across the five sports of athletics, hockey, swimming, football and netball; acknowledges in particular the collective effort of the Orkney squad in securing an overall victory under the captaincy of Max Linklater and Gracie MacLeod; pays tribute to the fantastic efforts of the athletes, coaches and supporters from Orkney and Shetland in ensuring another memorable occasion; understands that Orkney was victorious across the football, hockey and swimming, and was only narrowly defeated by 1.5 points in the athletics with Abi Coltherd and Emily McArthur breaking the 100m and 200m, and 400m and 800m records respectively; notes that Shetland came out on top in the netball; recognises the decisive 4-0 victory for Orkney in the football, with goals from Kian Vendy, Zander Baillie and captain George Ewing earning the team the Matta Monkman shield for outstanding Orkney performance; notes that, following its first swimming victory in 27 years at the 2024 competition, Orkney achieved its first victory in Shetland since 1995, with captains Eve Wood and Alfie Price breaking five junior inter-county records between them; thanks both the Orkney and Shetland junior inter-county associations and all the volunteers who have made this competition possible each year since 1947, and looks forward to many more successful years of fierce sporting rivalry combined with the forming of lifelong friendships.
