That the Parliament acknowledges that the Princess Royal will officially open the 2025 Island Games, which are taking place in Orkney; understands that the opening ceremony will take place at the Bignold Park in Kirkwall on 12 July 2025 and will be hosted by TV presenter Lorraine Kelly and local businessman, Stewart Bain; notes that this prestigious international competition will see Orkney welcome approximately 2,000 athletes from 24 islands around the world as well as coaches, officials and supporters; understands that the games will comprise of 12 sports, namely archery, athletics, badminton, bowls, cycling, football, golf, gymnastics, sailing, squash, swimming and triathlon; recognises that this will be the largest multi-sport event taking place in Europe in 2025; looks forward to what have come to be known as the Friendly Games, where ties and lifelong friendships are established between fellow islanders, and feels confident that these will be yet another memorable games, showcasing sporting talent as well as all that Orkney has to offer.
