That the Parliament recognises that 12 May 2025 is International Nurses’ Day; believes that nurses play vital and varied roles in delivering excellent care that saves and changes lives every day; understands that Nurses' Day is about celebrating this contribution and thanking nursing staff who are working in health and social care across the country for all that they do; understands that the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) is marking the day by highlighting the incredible skill, dedication and impact of nursing; notes that the RCN believes that there needs to be a shift in how nursing is understood, recognised and valued, and that it is highlighting that, rather than a "calling" or a "vocation", nursing is a highly skilled and safety-critical profession, requiring remarkable dedication, professionalism and expertise; acknowledges what it sees as the challenges and pressures that nursing staff are under in health and care services across the country; welcomes the recent report and recommendations from the Nursing and Midwifery Taskforce; believes that, taken together, these recommended actions provide a strategic roadmap to begin to tackle nursing retention and recruitment in Scotland, and further believes that implementing the taskforce’s recommendations is vital to ensuring that nursing is an attractive career choice, improving retention and, ultimately, developing a sustainable nursing workforce for the future.
