Moral Distress Experienced by Healthcare Professionals

That the Parliament notes its concern at the extent of moral distress being experienced by healthcare professionals in Scotland; welcomes the upcoming reception hosted by MDDUS on 5 March 2025 in the Fleming Room at the Scottish Parliament to raise awareness of this issue; considers that moral distress is worsened by the impact of the cost of living crisis and the challenges facing the NHS; understands that MDDUS is a mutual defence specialist headquartered in Glasgow that represents the professional and legal interests of more than 65,000 healthcare professionals; believes that supporting the mental health of the workforce is crucial for ensuring safe patient care, and understands that this reception will be an opportunity for members to hear from healthcare professionals about what it sees as the vital importance of protecting practitioners’ wellbeing and mental health.
