That the Parliament congratulates volunteer members of the Friends of Elder Park, who have worked tirelessly to restore the Rose Garden in Elder Park, Govan; understands that the area had been described as an absolute mess, due to fly-tipping, shopping trolleys in the pond, overgrown weeds, shrubs, grass and rubbish littering the park; further understands that, after initiatives to restore the ornate Victorian entrance gate on Govan Road, and create a wildflower meadow, the group turned to the Rose Garden, close to the Langlands Road entrance, in June 2024, with the aim of having the area blooming once again for spring 2025; understands that the volunteers wanted the Rose Garden restored to its former glory, and began by clearing the beds ready for planting, ahead of the spring; acknowledges that the work to restore the Rose Garden included tidying up the statue of Govan philanthropist, Isabella Elder, at the garden’s heart, which was surrounded by tall, overgrown grasses; understands that new beds have been dug out around the statue, with plans to surround the statue with gravel, thanks to a £500 donation from Govan Weavers' Society; further understands that the park is described as "Govan’s back garden", and notes that the groups has several projects ongoing to revitalise the green space, which are led by a group of around 10 Elder Park volunteers, who meet every Sunday for three hours to work on improving the park.
