  • Submitted by: Liam McArthur, Orkney Islands, Scottish Liberal Democrats.
  • Date lodged: Thursday, 28 November 2024
  • Motion reference: S6M-15656

That the Parliament congratulates Davie Flett and David Walker on their record-breaking achievement of the longest continuous row for their age group; understands that, having started their row at 12.00 pm on 22 November 2024, the pair shattered the British and world record of 24 hours, 30 minutes and 40.2 seconds on 23 November, finally clocking up an astonishing 34 hours, 34 minutes and 34.5 seconds, in front of a crowd of onlookers at the Orkney Sailing Club shed in Kirkwall; commends this truly Herculean physical feat and the remarkable levels of mental perseverance that it required; welcomes the funds of over £3,000 that were raised by the pair for Crossroads Care Orkney and Orkney Rowing Club; notes that Crossroads Care is a charity doing invaluable work to support carers, and those for whom they care, across Orkney, and that Orkney Rowing Club is a vibrant local club growing in popularity and providing opportunities for members of the community to get involved, keep fit and gain new skills; thanks both Davie and David for their outstanding achievement and the funds that they have raised for two worthwhile causes, and looks forward to seeing what further world record-breaking attempts the pair choose to target in the future.
