That the Parliament congratulates Serena Sutherland, from Stromness, on being nominated as president-elect of the Law Society of Scotland; recognises Serena’s deep legal experience as sole director of d and h, a law firm with offices in Kirkwall, Stromness, Thurso and Elgin, which she joined in 2003 and has owned since 2016; understands that Serena has served on the Law Society’s Council since 2018, representing solicitors across the Highlands and Islands on the Society’s highest decision-making body; applauds Serena’s commitment to her local community, demonstrated in her voluntary work on the boards of Advocacy Orkney, Relationships Scotland Orkney and Kirkwall Business Improvement District (BID), as well as serving as legal advisor to the 2025 Kirkwall Island Games Committee; pays tribute to Serena’s work as the sole legal aid solicitor based in Orkney, providing access to justice to those who need it, and for her service on the Law Society’s Legal Aid Committee; notes that current Law Society president, Susan Murray, has described Serena as a "highly experienced solicitor" with "a deep understanding of the issues facing the legal profession"; believes, therefore, that Serena is perfectly suited to serve as Law Society president for 2026-27, and wishes her well in this important role.
