That the Parliament recognises the five-year anniversary of the International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste Reduction on 29 September 2024; understands that this international day was founded by the United Nations to highlight the need to bolster efforts to reduce food loss and waste, contribute to achieving climate goals and advance the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals; acknowledges that, globally, around 13.2% of food produced is lost between harvest and retail, while an estimated 19% of total global food production is wasted in households, in the food service and in retail all together; understands that investments that reduce food loss and waste contribute to improving food security, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, enable healthy diets, and contribute to ensuring a future where food availability is not threatened by climate, and encourages everyone to continue to raise awareness of food loss and waste reduction in an attempt to achieve sustainability goals.
