That the Parliament congratulates Orkney Rugby Football Club on winning Community Club of the Season at the Scottish Rugby Caledonia North Community Recognition Awards 2024; recognises that Orkney players regularly travel across Scotland for games, and that they show dedication to the club and to the sport; believes that the players' dedication has driven the club’s performance forward, with First XV currently in second place in National League Division 3; considers that the growth and vibrancy of Orkney RFC has been a major factor in increasing interest in the club, with membership growing and home games now drawing a significant number of fans; recognises that Orkney Dragons continue to enjoy success in popularising the sport among women and girls, with competitive "internal" matches now taking place regularly and drawing players from around the islands, thanks in large part to the efforts of Erlend Drever; acknowledges the success of youth rugby in Orkney, notably at under-16 level, where the team remained unbeaten all season and won the league; commends Orkney RFC for pursuing broader access through their digital presence, with dedicated volunteer George Drever streaming all the matches to an online audience that has exceeded 1,000 viewers on his YouTube channel, Rohallion; understands that the award follows Orkney RFC also being crowned Team of the Year at the Orkney Sport Awards; pays tribute to the hard work and commitment demonstrated by players, volunteers and the wider community, which have led to this award being conferred; congratulates all other winners of the Community Recognition Awards, and acknowledges what it sees as the vital importance of grassroots rugby to the development of the sport in Scotland.
