Orkney Children in Need Fundraising

  • Submitted by: Liam McArthur, Orkney Islands, Scottish Liberal Democrats.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 24 November 2023
  • Motion reference: S6M-11385

That the Parliament recognises the incredible generosity shown by the people of Orkney during 2023’s Children in Need fundraiser, after the BBC Radio Orkney auction raised £28,000 for the charity; understands that the auction was held during a marathon Radio Orkney broadcast, which ran from 7.00 pm on 17 November to 1.00 am on 18 November 2023, in support of Children in Need; further understands that this is the largest total ever raised in Orkney for Children in Need, and considers that it reaffirms what it sees as the characteristic generosity of the Orkney public in raising such a phenomenal amount with a population of just over 22,000; commends everyone who has been involved in fundraising events across Orkney in the week before the broadcast; thanks all of the individuals and businesses that donated prizes to the auction; believes that Children in Need does excellent work in supporting organisations across the country, including in Orkney, and wishes Radio Orkney the best of luck in breaking its record again next year.
