Friends of the Earth Scotland and Platform Report on Offshore Workers' Just Transition Demands

  • Submitted by: Mark Ruskell, Mid Scotland and Fife, Scottish Green Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 07 March 2023
  • Motion reference: S6M-08126

That the Parliament welcomes the latest report by Friends of the Earth Scotland and Platform, Our Power: Offshore workers’ demands for a just energy transition; understands that the report comes from a survey of over 1,000 oil and gas workers, with over 90% of those surveyed agreeing with the results; further understands that the report is supported by key trade unions in the energy sector, such as Unite Scotland, Unison Scotland and the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers; highlights that the report outlines 10 demands for a Just Transition that it considers are comprehensive in scope, transformative in scale, and deliverable now, such as removing barriers that make it harder for oil and gas workers to move into the renewable industry, ensuring safety, job security and fair pay across the energy industry, and sharing the benefits of Scotland's energy system fairly, with public investment in energy companies and communities, and notes the calls on the Scottish Government to implement the demands of this report as soon as possible and to listen to offshore workers who have the knowledge and experience needed to facilitate a truly Just Transition.
