  • Submitted by: Anas Sarwar, Glasgow, Scottish Labour.
  • Date lodged: Friday, 10 February 2023
  • Motion reference: S6M-07830

That the Parliament celebrates The Herald’s 240th anniversary, with the newspaper's establishment having taken place in 1783; understands that The Herald is now the longest-running national newspaper in the world; further understands that The Herald has witnessed many changes in the world over the last 240 years, and a significant number in the newspaper industry, but that it remains determined to produce a quality, trusted news brand for Scotland; believes that The Herald has been at the forefront of the great industry of journalism, which helps inform public debate in Scotland, gives voice to the voiceless and holds those in power to account, and congratulates editor Catherine Salmond and her team, the current custodians of this Scottish institution, on the newspaper’s 240th anniversary.
