Launch of the Ian Findlay Path Fund

  • Submitted by: Mark Ruskell, Mid Scotland and Fife, Scottish Green Party.
  • Date lodged: Wednesday, 03 August 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-05584

That the Parliament commends the launch of the new Ian Findlay Path Fund, worth £1.5 million, which supports path management projects that improve the accessibility and resilience of existing paths between homes, community services, active travel routes and public transport facilities or connections; notes that the fund is managed by Scotland’s walking charity, Paths for All, and supported by Transport Scotland; understands that the fund has been developed as a tribute to Ian Findlay, late chief officer at Paths For All; further understands that the fund will enable more people to walk, wheel or cycle for their everyday journeys in order to improve air quality, reduce CO2 emissions and improve physical health and mental wellbeing; understands that the fund is now accepting applications from community groups, development trusts and charities; encourages communities looking to improve the accessibility of their local path networks to apply for a share of the fund, and wishes the fund and the selected projects every success for the future.
