That the Parliament congratulates StoryTrails on their UK-wide events during the summer of 2022, which includes Dumfries, in which they have harnessed the magic of immersive storytelling to bring to life un-told historical stories from the past; notes that StoryTrails is led by StoryFutures Academy, which is run by Royal Holloway, University of London, and the National Film and Television School (NFTS), and delivered in partnership with broadcaster and film-maker, David Olusoga, BBC, Uplands Television, and leading immersive specialists, ISO Design and Nexus Studios; understands that the StoryTrails experience allows people to encounter the social and cultural history of their home town in a completely new way through augmented and virtual reality, in a form of time travel via immersive technologies and that the events are taking place in town squares, libraries, streets, and cinemas, which are being transformed into virtual portals in 15 locations across the UK, including in Dumfries; notes the intensive research undertaken of the Dumfries historic archives; welcomes that StoryTrails, in partnership with community leaders from across Dumfries, including Doonhamer Debs DJ McDowall, have created a pop up cinema at the Ewart Library in the town; notes that the immersive walking trail includes the Ewart Library, the Midsteeple, the Queensbury fountain, as well as other areas and that it has a focus on women’s empowerment and of queens of the town; congratulates every member of the partnership on their creativity, enthusiasm, and imagination, and wishes all, including the volunteers and staff in Dumfries, every success for the future.
