Iain MacNeil's Epic Record-setting Global Voyage

  • Submitted by: Alasdair Allan, Na h-Eileanan an Iar, Scottish National Party.
  • Date lodged: Tuesday, 07 June 2022
  • Motion reference: S6M-04694

That the Parliament congratulates Iain MacNeil, from the Isle of Barra, and his crew on setting a world record by becoming the first to successfully circumnavigate the world on a boat from the sub-24m motor yacht class; notes that a converted Swedish search and rescue vessel, the MV Astra, was used to accomplish this feat in 166 days; understands that the journey of 27,000 nautical miles, which started and finished in Puerto Calero, Lanzarote, saw them pass the Cape of Good Hope in South Africa, Cape Leeuwin in Western Australia, South Cape in New Zealand and Cape Horn in Chile; recognises what it sees as the fantastic displays of bravery, skill and seamanship involved in successfully setting this record, and wishes them all the best for any future adventures.
