  • Submitted by: Alex Cole-Hamilton, Edinburgh Western, Scottish Liberal Democrats
  • Date lodged: Monday, 20 November 2017
  • Motion type: Amendment
  • Motion reference: S5M-09000.1

As an amendment to motion S5M-09000 in the name of Maureen Watt (Suicide Prevention in Scotland), after "the last decade" insert "; considers that a step change in all aspects of mental health provision is necessary, with budgets aligned accordingly, particularly given the disappointment among stakeholders regarding the new mental health strategy; recognises the positive impact that robust strategies can have on suicide rates; condemns therefore the fact that the Scottish Government's last suicide prevention strategy ended at the end of 2016, with its replacement still seemingly in the early stages of development; notes that this has coincided with the latest annual statistics showing an 8% increase in people taking their own lives".
