The UK National Screening Committee (UK NSC) is currently reviewing its 2007 recommendation against lung cancer screening. The work on developing a protocol for NHS Boards to undertake pilot programmes for lung cancer screening will resume once the NSC’s evidence review is complete, as any new recommendation will guide pilot design and implementation.

The Agri-Environment Climate Scheme (AECS) is open and available to crofters that are registered on the Scottish Government’s Rural Payments and Services website.

An important feature of the scheme is a scoring system designed to avoid discrimination against smaller businesses, including crofters. This aims to promote applications by small businesses by awarding points where the application value is less than £20,000 (1 additional point) and more for applications less than £10,000 (3 additional points).

Where an applicant’s business has less than 30 hectares, some beneficiaries are able to access small unit supplementary payments across many of the options over and above the income foregone payments for AECS options. This extends to allow some businesses of less than 30 hectares to access important socio-economic options like native breed cattle introduction and retention.

The Service commissioned an independent Demand and Capacity Review in 2017. Funding has since been approved on a phased basis, with the third phase of the review scheduled to be concluded and changes implemented by November 2022.

Since 2008 the annual Festivals Expo fund has invested over £30 million in the festivals to support innovation, collaboration and artist development. This year funding will also support festival resilience plans following the Covid-19 pandemic.

The recipients of this year’s £2 million Expo Fund were announced on 8th February 2022. The fund is managed by Creative Scotland who have noted that all eligible festivals should receive their contracts and first payments from this year’s fund, by mid-April 2022 in line with timescales from previous years.

National Record of Scotland (NRS) plan to publish the 1921 Scottish Census on the ScotlandsPeople Website ( ScotlandsPeople | Connecting Generations ) and in the ScotlandsPeople Centre as early as possible in the second half of 2022.

NHS Education for Scotland publishes annual data on sickness absence rates and on bank and agency spend for Medical & Dental and Nursing & Midwifery staff. It should be noted that there are a variety of reasons Boards may choose to deploy bank and agency staff and this does not directly represent spending associated with staff absence.

Health Boards are required to report exit packages in their annual accounts, in line with the requirements set out in HMT’s Financial Reporting Manual. Boards’ annual accounts are publicly available on their websites.

Detail not included in the accounts or that pre dates this requirement would need to be requested from Health Boards.

Internationally renowned modelling company Operational Research in Health (ORH) were commissioned by the Scottish Ambulance Service to carry out an analysis on 7 years’ worth of data to help inform the review of demand and capacity.

ORH used a population growth data to predict future demand and resources required to meet performance standards. This included patient demand, types of clinical presentation, on scene times, at hospital times, travel times, vehicle tracking data, resourcing levels, receiving hospitals, station locations, rest periods and standard operating procedures.

In addition, Working Time Solutions were also commissioned to assist with the design and implementation of rosters that better match demand profiles.

Following approval, SAS will publish the third phase of the business case.
