Convener

Under agenda item 2, we must choose a new convener. The standing orders of the Parliament determine that the convener of the Finance Committee will be a member of the Labour party. I invite nominations from members of the committee.

I nominate Des McNulty.

I second that.

There is only one nomination. If that nomination is agreed, we can welcome Des McNulty as the new convener of the Finance Committee.

Des McNulty was chosen as convener.

I thank Elaine Thomson and the other members of the committee. I look forward very much to working with them all as convener and as a member of the committee.

I hope that members will be relatively gentle with me, because the committee is engaged in on-going business and, as new members, it will take Tom McCabe and me some time to get up to speed with what the committee has been doing.

It was agreed at a previous meeting that we would take item 3 in private.
