Reporter (European Union)
Good afternoon everyone and welcome to the second meeting of the Equal Opportunities Committee in the fourth session of the Scottish Parliament. We are in public session, so I remind everyone present, including members please, to ensure that mobile phones, BlackBerrys and other electronic devices are turned off completely, as they interfere with the sound system even when they are switched to silent.
We have received no apologies. I am Claudia Beamish, the convener of the committee. The other committee members who are present are Clare Adamson, John Finnie, Siobhan McMahon and Dennis Robertson; we await Margaret Mitchell. The deputy convener, Stuart McMillan, is also here. To my left are Douglas Thornton, the clerk to the committee, Neil Stewart, the assistant clerk, and Nicki Georghiou from the Scottish Parliament information centre. We are also joined at the table by colleagues from the official report and broadcasting.
Agenda item 1 is the appointment of a member of the committee to serve as its European Union reporter, whose role is to act as a champion on EU matters in the committee. Further details are provided in the committee papers. I invite nominations for the post of EU reporter. Members can self-nominate if they want to do so.
I nominate Clare Adamson.
Are there other nominations? I think that Siobhan McMahon had expressed an interest in the role. Do you want to nominate yourself, Siobhan?
No, it is okay.
Okay. I welcome Margaret Mitchell, who has just arrived.
Are members happy to appoint Clare Adamson as the committee’s EU reporter?
Members indicated agreement.
I am delighted that Clare Adamson will be our EU reporter. Congratulations on your appointment. We look forward to working with you on important aspects to do with how we fit in with European strategy and how all that fits with equal opportunities.
As we agreed at our previous meeting, we move into private session to discuss the committee’s work programme.
14:03 Meeting continued in private until 16:33.
