I welcome members to this joint meeting of the Justice 1 Committee and the Justice 2 Committee to scrutinise the budget process. It would be helpful if members would switch off phones and things that buzz. I have received apologies from Mike Pringle, Jeremy Purvis, Colin Fox, Maureen Macmillan and, belatedly, Bruce McFee. We are joined today by Margo MacDonald, whom I welcome to the meeting.

Item 1 is to ask the committees whether they agree to take in private item 3, which is to discuss what we want to put in our report. I also ask members whether they agree to meet in private at future meetings for the same reason.
