Item 2 on the agenda is the choosing of a convener. Under rule 12.1.2 of the standing orders, the Parliament decides, on a motion of the Parliamentary Bureau, the party whose members are eligible for nomination as convener of the committee. Motion S2M-107 was agreed on 4 June 2003; Parliament has thus agreed that members of the Labour party are eligible for nomination. I therefore seek nominations of members from that party.
I nominate Bristow Muldoon.
One nomination has been received.
Bristow Muldoon was chosen as convener.
I now lay down my burden and am happy to hand over the convenership to Bristow.
Thank you, colleagues, for choosing me as convener of the Local Government and Transport Committee, and thank you, Andrew, for chairing the opening part of the meeting. As Andrew suggested, this committee will certainly be one of the busiest and most important in the Parliament over the years to come. That applies to both aspects of its remit—local government and transport. I look forward to working with you all on our busy agenda.
