Deputy Convener

The Convener:

Our second item concerns the election of a deputy convener to replace Nora Radcliffe. On 4 June 2003, the Parliament agreed motion S2M-107, which resolved that members of the Scottish Liberal Democrats are eligible to be chosen as deputy convener of the Equal Opportunities Committee. I invite members of the Equal Opportunities Committee to nominate a member of that party for the deputy convenership.

I nominate Margaret Smith.

Margaret Smith was chosen as deputy convener.

I thank colleagues for the extreme faith that they have shown in me. I apologise for the fact that, obviously, they were presented with Hobson's choice. However, I hope that I will do a good job.
