Cities Strategy

We have had a letter from the Deputy First Minister on the cities strategy. It was circulated before the meeting and it basically states the same timeline as before: the document will be produced by the end of this year. There is an invitation to a stakeholders event on 4 November; members should let the clerks know if they would like to attend.

The letter is basically a holding letter to say that the Government has been busy and active and that a strategy will be in place by the end of the year, so I do not propose to widen the discussion unless anybody wants to comment.

I just want to say that I was encouraged by the second last paragraph. I raised concerns about non-city areas with the Deputy First Minister when she was at committee, but there is some encouragement in the letter.

The point was forcefully made by many of you.

That concludes item 3. The date of the next meeting is Wednesday 2 November, when we will continue with our scrutiny of the budget. I thank all members for their efforts today.
