Equalities, Human Rights and Civil Justice Committee

Response to the EHRiC Session 5 Report - COVID impact on equalities

Letter from the Scottish Government, 8 September 2021

Dear Convener

The Scottish Government notes the report on the Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Equalities and Human Rights, published by the Equality and Human Rights Committee in March 2021. The Scottish Government is committed to ensuring that equality and human rights are embedded in everything we do. COVID-19 has highlighted the deep-rooted inequalities that still exist within our society, and it is vital that as we progress with our renewal and recovery work, we use this opportunity to make fundamental and lasting changes to advance equality and realise our international human rights obligations.

I have considered the Committee’s report in detail and attach the Scottish Government’s response to each specific recommendation in the annex below.

I look forward to engaging with the Equality, Human Rights and Civil Justice Committee in the coming months.

Yours sincerely

Christina McKelvie
