June Connolly submission of 26 July 2021

PE1865/AAA - Suspend all surgical mesh and fixation devices

I’ve been suffering a lot of pain deep in my right side into my groin and in my lower right back and down my leg (more numbness than pins and needles).

This has been almost since I had the mesh sling fitted to hold my bladder up 2006/2007. I feel as though my life is being consumed with pain and it’s just getting worse. Most days the pain is crippling and unbearable, no matter what I do I get no relief.

The new excuse over the past few years for my pain is that it’s possibly sciatica or and symptoms of the menopause.

I asked to be referred back to urology about 2 years ago because I was concerned and wanted checked out. I was told the whole situation around the mesh is misreported by the press and there was no need to be concerned. Also, if I opted to have the mesh removed it could cause significant damage. I was accompanied so I have a witness to what was said.

I had a scan about 1 year ago and it was discovered I have a cyst on my right ovary which is being checked every 4 months. My GP has told me it’s very unlikely to be the cyst causing the pain. I’ve been referred to the pain clinic and physio which is no help in discovering what is causing my pain.

I feel very frustrated, please can anyone help.
