NHS Greater Glasgow, which has received the majority of asylum seekers, has established a dedicated mental health support liaison service headed by a psychologist which is responsible for the assessment of asylum seekers as they enter Scotland.

The Scheme was triggered on 8 April 1999 following representation from several councils in the central belt and south west of Scotland on costs directly associated with the immediate aftermath of the Boxing Day storms.There has been close liaison between the Scottish Executive and East Ayrshire Council on the eligibility of its claim.
There have been recent instances—for example, in relation to fire services legislation—where there could have been closer liaison in both directions. It is important that we learn from those examples and that we improve the situation.
The format of the report follows the straightforward style agreed by the conveners liaison group. I do not have time to go through the report paragraph by paragraph, but I will take any general comments or corrections.
