It should also be said that the lower number of fishing vessels means that the automatic response of any vessel in the fishing community to come to the aid of any other vessel in distress is not always practical or available, which makes it all the more important that the co-ordination through the coastguard is as good as possible.
Care nearer to home would not be the care that is co-ordinated at the unit. Does the cabinet secretary think that the proposed cuts are acceptable, even in these financially challenging times?
