Supported by: Jeremy Balfour*, David Torrance*, Richard Lochhead*, Sandra White*, Joan McAlpine*, Ivan McKee*, Richard Lyle* *S5M-04927 Liam Kerr: RBS Branch Closure, Stonehaven That the Parliament expresses its — concern at the decision by the Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) to close 30 branches in Scotland, including the branch in Stonehaven, Aberdeenshire; understands that the bank s justification for ’ this is that there has been both a decrease in footfall and an increase in the number of customers using digital baking services, but considers that, regardless of how they choose to interact with it, customers should expect equality of service; considers that closing the branches will be discriminatory against people who, for whatever reason, do not use digital banking; believes that this group of customers is likely to include large numbers of older people and others who, for whatever reason, cannot travel distances to a remaining branch, and notes with concern the effect that such closures have on traditional high streets, with drops in bank-related footfall causing other businesses to close.
