To ask the Scottish Executive further to the answer to question S1W-270 by Ross Finnie on 13 July, what measures at the disposal of the European Commission it intends to encourage the Commission to use to assist the pig farming industry in Scotland.
In due course I will announce the appointment of further Special Advisers to provide specialist and political advice and assistance complementing that of the civil service.

In the minister's response I do not want to hear the words, "feasibility studies", "consultants' reports", "more time", "more debate" and "marketing assistance". The reality is that there is a real need now.
Several useful suggestions were made tonight on the role that families can play. Lyndsay McIntosh compared assisting with teenage children to acting like a peace negotiator.
It has been suggested that, although it is up to the Justice and Home Affairs Committee how it conducts its work programme, this is a matter that that committee should, perhaps, add to its programme.
How would you prevent— What we suggest has happened in relation to transplants. Television programmes that have been on lately about transplants have been wonderful; they have shown the public that transplantation truly is the gift of life.
A little time is needed before people get used to the new slot and for education centre programmes and visits from constituencies to be organised to accommodate the change.
